International Wine Days: Celebrating Wines from Around the Globe at Humble Grape
Over the past few months, we've celebrated some of the most iconic international wine days with a line-up of exciting tastings, events, and pairings at Humble Grape. From Cap Classique Day to Cabernet Sauvignon Day, each occasion has honoured the unique flavours, histories, and food pairings that make these wines unforgettable. As we head into the festive season, there's no better time to delve into the world of wine, discover new flavours, and pick up a few bottles to gift or enjoy at home. Let’s recap these wine celebrations and take a peek at the upcoming dates, so you’re ready to raise a glass with us.
Cap Classique Day - September 1st
We kicked off September with Cap Classique Day, a celebration of South Africa’s beloved sparkling wine. This bubbly beauty, often compared to champagne, brings a more relaxed and laid-back vibe to any gathering. Cap Classique pairs perfectly with lighter dishes like grilled fish or a zesty salad, making it an ideal choice for lunch with friends at one of the best wine bars in London. If you missed this one, keep an eye out for it next year, and be sure to explore our collection of Cap Classique in our wine store.
Cabernet Sauvignon Day - September 7th
On this day, we celebrated the bold, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon, a red wine known for its deep flavour profile and versatility. Whether you’re enjoying a cosy night in or impressing guests at a Christmas party, Cabernet Sauvignon’s notes of blackcurrant, dark chocolate, and green pepper make it a standout. At Humble Grape, we paired this “King of Red Wine” with a grilled steak—the perfect combination.
Chianti Day - September 8th
This Italian red, renowned for its rich cherry notes and earthy undertones, deserves a place in your wine collection. Perfect for pairing with game dishes or Italian-inspired fare, Chianti captures the heart of Tuscany in every sip. Chianti lovers enjoyed tasting this at Humble Grape’s Italian wine tasting events, diving into the world of rustic elegance and Mediterranean flavours.
Port Day - September 10th
Port Wine Day was all about indulging your sweet tooth with this rich, fortified wine. Known for its velvety texture and deep notes of chocolate, port is a fantastic dessert wine. We recommend pairing it with chocolate for a luxurious treat. Our wine tastings included classic varieties, adding warmth and richness to our London wine bars’ offerings.
Grenache Day - September 15th
Grenache, the easy-going red wine, made its appearance with plenty of flavour and friendliness. Often described as a fun and approachable red, it pairs wonderfully with a Sunday roast. Those who attended the tasting were treated to this versatile wine with a lineup of savoury dishes that highlighted its juicy, berry-forward flavour.
Orange Wine Day - October 6th
One of the more unique wines we celebrated was Orange Wine—a style that’s gaining popularity for its fresh, slightly tannic profile and beautiful pale amber colour. Orange wine, made from white grapes with extended skin contact, brings intense aromas and a unique flavour profile. Perfect with spicy dishes, we offered pairings with our famed spicy cauliflower to complement the rich notes of tropical fruit, quince, and pear in the wine.
Pinotage Day - October 14th
Pinotage, South Africa’s signature red, was the star of the show in mid-October. Known for its bold, fruity flavours, with notes of cherry, chocolate, and subtle cedar, this wine offers complexity and depth. The Nieuwe Haarlem Pinotage from Paarl showcased at Humble Grape was vegan-friendly and a true expression of South Africa’s rich soil and dynamic flavours. If you’re planning a corporate Christmas party or seeking a unique gift, this Pinotage makes for a memorable choice.
Champagne Day - October 25th
Champagne, the ultimate sparkling wine. With vineyards sprawling across France’s northeastern hills, Champagne’s finesse and elegance are unmatched. At our Champagne tasting events, we featured the exceptional Philippe Gonet, situated near renowned vineyards like Salon and Krug. This November, Chantal Brégeon from Philippe Gonet will join us for our Meet the Winemaker Supper Club. Perfect as a Christmas gift or a festive treat, champagne is always a crowd-pleaser at private Christmas dinners or corporate events.
