This May, we’re cranking up the heat and heading to South Africa. No, we’re not going on a safari, but we are starting on a wild adventure through the sun-drenched vineyards and vibrant flavours of South Africa. Buckle up, because this month at Humble Grape, it's all about celebrating the land of bold wines and even bolder cuisine.

South Africa isn't just known for its spectacular landscapes and iconic wildlife—it’s also one of the top 10 wine-producing countries in the world. Yep, you heard it right. Nestled primarily in the Western Cape, South African vineyards bask in a wonderfully diverse climate, growing grapes that scream personality and richness.

Let’s break it down:

Chenin Blanc

Crisp, refreshing, and often with a cheeky twist of tropical fruit. Perfect for those who like their wine like their jokes—sharp and memorable.

Pinotage

The love child of Pinot Noir and Cinsault, this red is a true maverick—smoky, earthy, and with a hint of rebel spirit.

Cabernet Sauvignon

A classic with a South African swagger. Bold, brash, and beautifully balanced.

But wait, there's more! We’ve spiced up our menu with two South African delights that’ll transport your taste buds faster than you can say “Lekker!”

Frikkadel (VE): Think of these as South Africa’s answer to the humble meatball, but make it vegan and pair it with chakalaka—a spicy vegetable relish that's as fun to eat as it is to say. Expect a burst of flavour that’ll make you wonder why you ever settled for plain old meatballs.

Chicken Sosaties: Marinated Chicken Skewer, ApricotThese marinated chicken skewers are tender, juicy, and accompanied by apricots that add a sweet, tangy twist. They’re like the culinary equivalent of a summer fling—exciting, memorable, and just the right amount of spicy.




South African Supper Clubs: Wine & Dine

For those of you who want to take your South African exploration to the next level, we’ve got a treat lined up. On the 28th and 29th of May, join us in Battersea and Islington for our South African Supper Clubs. It’s not just a dinner; it’s a six-course gastronomic journey paired with seven sensational wines.

Francois Haasbroek from Blackwater Wines will be gracing us with his presence, bringing along his gems like the iconic Blackwater Underdog Chenin Blanc 2022 and the Blackwater Cuvée Terra Lux Pinot Noir MMXV, 2019. These wines are rare, unfiltered, and about as exclusive as getting a VIP pass to your favorite rock band’s after-party.
