Château Croisille
The top of the list has to be the producer that we’re highlighting this month, Château Les Croisille. Their story begins in the picturesque terroir in Fages, located in South West France. In 1979 Germain’s parents became tenant farmers of a parcel of untouched land and only with grit, love, and determination, did they transform it into the wine haven it is today.
The vineyard is nurtured through sustainable farming practices and cutting-edge winemaking wizardry to create Cahors wines that boast finesse, freshness, and perfect balance. In 2010, the family-run vineyard passed the torch to the next generation, who flipped the script and went all-in on organic viticulture. Now, the Croisille crew is focused on crafting wines in harmony with the unique terroir of the region. A win for Mother Nature!
Domaine Menard-Gaborit
Meet another one of the eco-warriors of the wine world – Domaine Menard-Gaborit! These guys are all about living in harmony with the earth, so they’ve ditched the chemicals and embraced the natural world with organic agriculture. Today, all their vines are organic certified, showing their commitment to respecting the environment and biodiversity.
But hey, being organic isn’t a walk in the park! Every move counts and every decision shapes the future harvest. They have to get creative to avoid using those nasty chemicals, such as whipping out aromatherapy to help combat fungal diseases as an alternative natural treatment.
And let’s not forget the heroes of the harvest: the team who lovingly pluck those precious grapes from their vines. It’s meticulous, it’s back-breaking, but it’s all in the name of respecting life and inching closer to biodynamics!
Château Edmus
Welcome to the petite paradise of Château Edmus, which lies in the charming commune of Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens. With just 1.6 hectares, half of Merlot, and the other half of Cabernet-Franc, this is a unique vineyard.
Since 2007, the land at Edmus has been in harmony with nature, but they really took things up a notch in 2017 with the switch to being organic. It takes three years to be awarded AB organic certification, and they snagged the logo with their 2020 vintage to raise the green flag high!
But Château Edmus are not stopping there! Oh no, they have now introduced Edmus to the wild world of biodynamics. It’s a holistic approach to agriculture - viewing the earth as a living organism that works in rhythm with the earth’s solar and lunar cycles, identifying when best to carry out agricultural operations to achieve the best quality. For Edmus, it’s an environmental responsibility, as they want to get as close to nature as possible!
Domaine Garnier et Fils
Domaine Garnier et Fils is run by two wine-loving bros, the Garnier brothers, from the picturesque town of Ligny-le-Châtel. With a whopping 25 hectares of vineyard playground, these guys are like the dynamic duo of grape-growing greatness!
But they’re not just any old winemakers – they’re on a mission to go green with their vineyard vibes. This year, they’re set to snag that organic certification, turning their patch of earth into a certified eco-paradise, to give Mother Nature a big high five. They’re all about keeping it real with native yeasts and letting their wines age like fine wine royalty for 12 to 30 months. Their patience pays off; you can taste in every delicious drop, as the brothers pour their love and respect into every grape.
Château des Coccinelles
Château des Coccinelles, affectionately known by our Humble regulars as ‘The Ladybird Wines’, is in Domazan, in the southern Rhône valley. Since way back in 1928, the Fabre family has been the proud guardians of this vinicultural wonderland. With clay-limestone soil sprinkled with rolled pebbles, it’s the perfect playground for Syrah, Grenache, Roussanne, and Chardonnay grapes to strut their stuff.
These guys are the OGs of organic farming – three generations deep, they’ve been rocking the organic scene like nobody’s business. They’ve been dancing to the beat of ‘Organic Farming’ since before it was cool, obtaining the label in 1978, but had been practising it well before that – talk about setting the green standard high! They preserve the quality of the soil and ban all chemical inputs, so you just know that these guys are experts at producing the good stuff.
