German World of Wine Series: London Summer Events

In July, our journey takes us to Germany, where we'll welcome one of our most popular producers who have been winning the hearts and minds of our guests for decades. Oskar Micheletti from Weingut Von Winning will be hosting our World of Wine events while introducing some of their best-selling wines, including the Weingut Von Winning Sauvignon Blanc, 2020, and the Weingut Von Winning Forster Ungeheuer Riesling GG, 2019 - Humble legends.

Established in 1849, Weingut Von Winning is a family-run estate, its rich legacy seamlessly passed down through generations and philosophy relying on the respectful cooperation with nature, with no use of herbicides or synthetic fertilisers. Interested in trying their wines? Well pop on over to our Winemaker Supperclubs or World of Wine tastings this month!

Germany World of Wine Events

Strangely, Germany is often overlooked by the greater wine-drinking public. But let's be clear: Germany is one of the world’s greatest wine countries, and we’re here to show you why. Maybe it’s the complexity of the country’s 13 regions, or maybe it’s the deliciousness of its wines, but something about German wines makes us geeky wine lovers, well, really geek out.

There's still time to get your hands on tickets to July's Meet the German Winemaker Dinners & Tastings - with the incredible Oskar Micheletti from Von Winning! Their wines have been amongst our Humble Grape bestsellers for years, winning the hearts and minds of our customers.

After a welcome glass of sparkling wine, Oskar will take you on a journey through six iconic German wines, including the Weingut Von Winning Forster Ungeheuer Riesling GG, 2019, learning all about the winery's winemaking practices, discussing the notes you can taste, and sharing the region's distinctive character. If you want to learn more about the wines, scroll on down!

Starting at 6.30pm, the wine tasting event will take approximately 2.5 hours, while our Supper Club spans 3.5 hours and includes a sustainable six-course German pairing menu carefully crafted by our Executive Chef Dane - have we got your attention yet?

Be there or be square. And seriously, who wants to be a square?

A Taste of the Evening

Our wine shop is stocked with the best, ready for you to take home a piece of Germany’s finest.

This is off-dry Riesling at its purest best. Lemon, lime, peach, spice, dried herbs and blossom, its touch of sweetness and juicy fruit is expertly balanced by a salty, sea wind freshness. The name Von Winning says it all. It would only be more fitting if this were called Von Epic, Von Awesome or Von Party in my Mouth.

A veritable firework of juicy acidity, exotic fruits and spices engrosses all your senses. Passion fruit, limes and peaches are tightly packed in a dense structure (70% fermented in wood) and make this wine a worthy competitor of the much-more expensive Pessac-Léognans.

Lemon skin, flint & elderflower. A touch of Burgundy is here with the usage of barrels. The grapes are sourced from vineyards in the village of Ruppertsberg on red and yellow sandstone and were spontaneously fermented in Burgundy barrels and bottled without filtration or the use of pumps.

Tremendously complex, immensely aromatic, enormously age-worthy, outrageously sext and colossal impressive. No wonder this wine has won Großes Gewächs classification - Great Growth - the highest classification for dry wines

A wine with a story like no other. In 2011, the day before the harvest, audacious thieves armed with a harvesting machine raided Von Winning’s Pinot Noir vineyards in the dead of night. They made away with some 2.5 tonnes of grapes worth €100,000. This wine is the comeback. Sweet revenge, retribution, justice, whatever you want to call it, for us, this is what triumph in adversity tastes like.

Al Fresco Dining in Style

Summer in London might be a bit of a wild card, but at Humble Grape, we make sure your summer drinking experience is top-notch. Our outdoor terraces offer the perfect al fresco dining spots to sip on chilled reds, light whites, and pale rosés.

And remember, this isn’t just another night out. This month is a chance to immerse yourself in the rich traditions of the Germany wine regions, guided by the expert hands of Oskar Micheletti and the Humble Grape team.

So, ditch the snooty, intimidating wine tastings. Our World of wine events are all about letting loose!
