Taste of Germany at London’s Best Wine Bar

VIP (Very Important Pürs) Riesling

This month at Humble Grape, we're raising our glasses to Germany, celebrating its renowned wine regions and delectable cuisine. Germany wine regions like Pfalz and Mosel are famous for their diverse and high-quality wines. From the rich and full-bodied Rieslings of Pfalz to the elegant and minerally Rieslings of Mosel, we invite you to taste the unique flavours of German winemaking at our London wine bars.

Exploring Germany Wine Regions: Pfalz and Mosel

Pfalz: Located in southwestern Germany, the Pfalz region is known for its warm climate and fertile soils, producing rich and full-bodied Rieslings, as well as excellent Pinot Noir and other varietals. The wines from this region are robust and flavourful, reflecting the warmth and richness of the land.

Mosel: Situated along the Mosel River, this region is famous for its steep vineyards and slate soils, yielding elegant and minerally Rieslings with vibrant acidity. Mosel wines are known for their finesse and complexity, offering a distinct contrast to the boldness of Pfalz wines.

Exploring these Germany wine regions provides a deep appreciation for the nuanced and sophisticated flavours that German wines have to offer. Each glass tells a story of its unique terroir, inviting you to experience the diverse landscape of German viticulture at our London wine bars.

Riesling: The Versatile Summer Drinking Wine

Riesling is celebrated for its versatility and flexibility when it comes to food pairings. Its vibrant acidity and diverse flavour profile make it an ideal companion for a wide range of dishes. Whether you're indulging in spicy foods, rich and fatty textures, or complex flavours, Riesling can take your dining experience to a whole other level. Enjoy Riesling as a perfect option for summer drinking at any of our London wine bars.

A rich and full-bodied Riesling that pairs beautifully with hearty dishes.

Sexy and seductive Riesling born out of chalk and red sandstone. Was it good for you, too?

Grown under the somewhat suggestive eye of a statue of Eve, this Riesling is your gateway to Paradise. Single plot with oodles of flavours, 30% oak contact. Elegant, fresh and sexy. *Phew*. Was it good for you, too?

Humble heroes. From their intriguing (and award-winning) Rieslings to their groundbreaking Pinot Noirs, we love every wine and winemaker from this family-run estate. Founded in 1849 by Dr. Deinhard, developed by his son-in-law Leopold von Winning in 1907, the estate was revived in 2007 by Achim Niederberger, together with the Bassermann-Jordan and von Buhl properties. Tragically Herr Niederberger died in 2013, and his wife Jana now steers the ship. No herbicides, no synthetic fertilisers, no copper, no filtering and no fining. Every bottle is a winner. Click below to hear more about the Weingut Von Winning, from Andreas Hütwohl of the estate.

An elegant and mineral Riesling that complements delicate and flavourful dishes.

Never have we been blown away so quickly with the quality of a new producer! Annelena, and her 26 year old winemaker brother Felix Heimes are the dynamic duo making the magic happen.

Produced on 12 hectares of some of the steepest slopes in the wine world, so everything is done by hand (far too steep for those poor old tractors!). Originally planted way back in 1898 by Maria Puricelli who also helped to build the original estate, the Heimes family now own this amazing, sustainable, winery, and keep getting better year after year. Grown on 30 year old vines with minimal intervention - this might just be the Riesling you were looking for!

German-Inspired Dishes at Our London Wine Bars

To celebrate Germany wine regions, our chef has created two dishes that bring a taste of Germany straight to your table. Using seasonal ingredients from the UK, these dishes are designed to highlight the unique characteristics of German cuisine. So search up wine bar near me and pop on over to your closest Humble Grape to indulge in these delicious creations.

Pork Schnitzel with Gurkensalat

A classic German dish, our Pork Schnitzel is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Paired with a refreshing Gurkensalat (cucumber salad), this dish is a delightful blend of flavours and textures. The Weingut Von Winning Paradiesgarten, 2021, Riesling from Pfalz pairs perfectly with this dish, enhancing the richness of the schnitzel and complementing the fresh flavours of the salad.

Kartoffelsalat

Our Kartoffelsalat (potato salad) is a comforting and hearty dish that showcases the best of German cuisine. Made with seasonal UK ingredients, this dish pairs wonderfully with the Wurtzberg Saar Riesling 2022, Mosel - Saar, Germany. The Riesling's mineral notes and vibrant acidity cut through the richness of the potatoes, creating a balanced and satisfying meal.
